Metro Housing|Boston’s Champions of Housing Celebration on Thursday, November 1 will benefit programs that help families and individuals in greater Boston bridge gaps in the homelessness prevention and affordable housing system.
Families like Tom’s. Tom, his wife and three children live in an affordable housing unit in the Georgetowne Homes community. Struggling with overwhelming debt, he was contemplating filing bankruptcy as his only option. After attending a Metro Housing Green Space Workshop held where he lives at Georgetown Homes, Tom felt like he had just grabbed a lifeline. Meeting with our financial coaches, he created a plan that prioritized investing in himself first. He focused on passing his nursing boards, allowing him to gain better employment, pay off his debts, and start to save for his family’s future.
And individuals like Michael. Michael was working as a residential counselor for a human services provider when a stroke left him unable to work and physically impaired. A referral to Metro Housing’s SIPS program led Michael to find a handicap accessible apartment that met his needs while he continued his recovery. Additional advocacy by Metro Housing on Michael’s behalf resulted in him receiving a motorized wheelchair, allowing him to increase his mobility.
Join us for this special night as we honor leaders from across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors who work to develop, promote, and preserve affordable housing in Greater Boston.
Our 2018 Honorees are:
