Metro Housing|Boston Preserves Housing for More than 115 Boston Residents with Mass General Brigham Grant

Boston, MA – Metro Housing|Boston is proud to report the organization has prevented more than 115 families from being evicted by providing emergency cash assistance using a $575,000 grant received from the Mass General Brigham Community Health Impact Funds (CHIF) and Brigham and Women’s Community Advisory Committee in the fall.

Stable housing is foundational to good health, and Metro Housing used the grant funds to keep people housed. With awards of up to $5,000, families avoided eviction and avoided Massachusetts’ over-burdened emergency shelter system.

“I am incredibly relieved and grateful to receive this assistance from the Mass General Brigham. This assistance will make a truly significant difference in my life, and I am deeply appreciative of the help,” says Joanne from Roxbury, one of the recipients.

“This grant was instrumental in enabling us to assist Boston residents who might not have qualified for other programs,” says Metro Housing|Boston Executive Director Christopher Norris. “We are grateful to Mass General Brigham for recognizing that stable housing is a critical component to good health and wellbeing.”

The grant funds were specifically targeted for residents in Misson Hill, Mattapan, and Roxbury, based on the recommendations of the Community Advisory Board who, guided by the community-driven Community Health Needs Assessment, determined housing to be a priority.

“The goal of this funding is to address the urgent need for affordable housing, prevent evictions, provide rental assistance through policy and advocacy and creation of resources for residents at risk of displacement,” says Mass General Brigham Community Health Director Tracy Sylven.

In 2023, Metro Housing case managers responded to more than 50,000 participant inquiries including email, phone, and walk in support services.
